GEMA: Earthquake Preparedness Education Movement As An Effort To Strengthen Teachers' Capacity In Building A Disaster-Aware Culture At Muhammadiyah Trini Elementary School

Indonesia is a country highly prone to earthquake disasters due to its location at the meeting point of three major tectonic plates, and more than 75% of schools in Indonesia, including in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, are located in disaster-prone areas. Elementary school teachers hold a strategic role as primary facilitators in instilling disaster preparedness in students; however, most teachers at SD Muhammadiyah Trini have never received formal education or earthquake preparedness simulation training, while disaster literacy within the school environment remains relatively low due to the lack of systematic educational media. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' knowledge and practical skills in earthquake disaster preparedness. The "GEMA" program was implemented at SD Muhammadiyah Trini through a socialization method comprising education, first aid training, and earthquake evacuation simulation. The results showed an increase in teachers' average knowledge score from 58.2 to 85.6, an increase of 47.1%. The strength of this program lies in its integration of education, practical skill training and evacuation simulation.
